As we had arrived late about 10pm and had spent 8 1/2 hours on the flight (delayed) we needed to venture out and find somewhere to eat and most importantly get a glass of wine (or 2). Our hotel was in the area Little India not far from the main attractions of the city centre about 15 minutes walk from the shopping district Orchards Road and Clarke Quay one of the main late night areas to visit, so we had a quick wash and change and made our way using the free map from the airport to guide us. I was very nervous about walking around at night as the girl I travelled with a good friend Nicola and myself are not the most street wise people as we grew up in a little market town. We didn't really have a clue where we were going, but about 5 minutes in I just felt so safe. It was a very strange feeling but I actually felt safer walking around Singapore a country I have never been to before late at night than where I live at the moment in Birmingham. And the streets were spotless not a piece of litter in sight not even cigarette buds and then I found out that if you are caught littering there is a $300 instant fine. That explains it!
A great way and probably the best way to see the city of Singapore is to hop on the red open top bus it's around 33SGD (£18) for a 2 day pass. There are 2 different routes around the city that you can do and it also includes the river cruise. So it is fairly good value for money considering Singapore is very expensive.
Over all Singapore is a fantastic city, lots of fun and well worth a visit. P.S take lot of money
